There
are two important terms related to philosophical of science: science and
knowledge. Knowledge is anything known
to man (Ahmad Tafsir, 2004). Others definitions mentioned knowledge as
cognition, or finding through mental perception, etc. The sources of knowledge
are authority, intuition, thought, and perceptions. Further term is science or
scientific knowledge. Science is more complex than knowledge. Science has to
meet some requirements and a certain way of thinking called scientific
methodology.
Philosophy
of science is
a philosophical study tends to answer questions about the nature of
science, which in
terms of ontological, epistemological
and axiological. In term of
philosophy of science, we have to consider about scientific method as the
instrument of thinking in philosophy. Scientific method is a way to get a working knowledge of the
size of a rational and its
rationality can be tested by showing the facts.
Since we know that science is more complex and specific
than knowledge, I wonder, what is the position of knowledge in human live? In
what case people will need ordinary knowledge or common sense knowledge? Is the
concept of common sense knowledge contributes the form of science and
scientific knowledge?
Scientific methodology leads us to the science and
scientific knowledge. But what happen in the era when the idea of scientific
methodology has not existed yet? What kind of methodology that people used
before they found scientific methodology? Did they use a scientific methodology
to describe scientific methodology it-self?
